Ark II is a treasured memory from my childhood. The tight shots, sparse costuming and bleak outlook evoke Outerscope crossed with Planet of the Apes on a shoestring budget, but ultimately this future is far too convincing.

“Phase IV is an American science fiction film, made in 1974. It is the only feature-length film directed by the noted title designer Saul Bass. It starred Michael Murphy, Nigel Davenport and Lynne Frederick.” – Wikipedia
The final installment of Saul Bass’ credit work as appears online.
“Beneath theory and rhetoric, and well beyond technique and jargon, the reason for design is to speak to people in a language this is familiar, but also new, to entice people to understand an old thing in a new way, or grasp a new thing in an old way. There has never been a designer who can do this better than Saul Bass, who adds the 1981 AIGA Medal to his long and quite extraordinary list of honors and achievements. Saul Bass honors this award.” – AIGA
Part the third of Saul Bass’ complete (online) credit work.
“During his 40-year career he worked for some of Hollywood’s greatest filmmakers, including most notably Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger, Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese. Amongst his most famous title sequences are the animated paper cut-out of a heroin addict’s arm for Preminger’s The Man with the Golden Arm, and the text racing up and down what eventually becomes a high-angle shot of the United Nations building in Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest.” – LogoDeisgnLove.com
And here we bring you the second installment of what I hope will become a comprehensive list of Saul Bass’ credit work, currently available online anyway. -
“SAUL BASS (1920-1996) was not only one of the great graphic designers of the mid-20th century but the undisputed master of film title design thanks to his collaborations with Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger and Martin Scorsese.” – Design Museum
For inspiration, here’s as complete a list of Saul’s brilliant credit work as I could compile. Enjoy.
“Saul Bass (May 8, 1920 – April 25, 1996) was an American graphic designer and filmmaker, but he is best known for his design on animated motion picture title sequences.” – Wikipedia
